The 2024 Olympics in Paris are this summer from July 26 – Aug. 11. The Olympics are always a fantastic time, and if you’re one of the lucky few who managed to score tickets and get to attend in person, it’s a fantastic spectacle!
One of the things we love about international events like the Olympics is that it gets people thinking about traveling overseas. Even if you’re not going to the Olympics this year, seeing all the countries and cultures represented on the world stage can activate your wanderlust for an overseas travel experience. So, if you’re considering an international trip or already have one booked, we wanted to share some tips for making international travel easier!
- Book everything in advance. One of the things that many people worry about when traveling internationally is unfamiliar circumstances. It can be challenging to navigate a new language or learn customs in a foreign country you’re unfamiliar with. You can avoid potential difficulties by booking as much of your trip ahead of time, like your accommodations, transportation, tours, and more.
- Carry less cash. When you’re traveling internationally, carrying less cash is often better. This way, you can avoid having leftover currency to exchange when you return. Instead, pay for everything in advance or use credit cards without foreign transaction fees. We also recommend wearing a moneybelt or crossbody bag to protect yourself from theft!
- Book private transportation. While using public transportation or ride-sharing services like Uber may cost less money, they can be challenging to navigate when you don’t speak the language. Booking a private driver or transportation service ahead of time can be a great way to reduce the stress of international travel and make it easier to get around when you don’t understand the region’s language or customs.
- Have a detailed itinerary prepared. This is where working with an experienced Travel Advisor to create a detailed itinerary can reduce your decision fatigue and stress. They can add the location and contact information of each stop you plan to make to your itinerary so you have everything in one spot. Then, all you have to do is keep a paper and a digital copy with you so you always know what’s coming next.
- Do some research before you go. The best thing you can do before traveling is research the region you plan to visit. Look up local customs, greetings, and history to familiarize yourself with the area. Even watching movies that were filmed in the location you’re going to or documentaries about the area can be helpful. Getting a little more familiar with the area you plan to visit can be a fun way to prepare for your trip!
